CRYONICS-- Alcor-- public relations-- Edward Bernays

[+] Edward Bernays is considered the father of public relations. Alcor hired a public relations agency, Walshcomm, to assist it during and after the TW crisis. Alcor still maintains somewhat of a public relations stance that can be distinguised from the transparent amateurism of the 60's, 70 and even 80's. The synonym for public relations-- an earlier word that was not a bad word when it was first used-- was propaganda. It's all about mind and thought control.

Think about it-- Let's say you really wanted cryoncis to become popular. And lets' say you had a pretty big budget. What would you do? Well, typically you would be interested in "public relations"-- and most certainly you'd be interested in thought control. Why not? If it works, it works right? Well, mass mind control DOES work to a certain extent.

My personal problem with that is that it's not truthful. For me cryonics can become more popular because it's truthfully portrayed. It's certainly not like a heart transplant. And it certainly doesn't "extend your life" as the name Alcor Life Extension foundation would suggest. The words the cryonics industry uses are all referred to, now, as semantic frames. A lot of insider cryonicists attempt to control the words associated with cryonics by threatening blog writers like me with the exposure of their real names-- and possible personal harassment-- if the (me included) use the word cryonics in association with ideas that they don't want the public to see associated with cryonics. Like Larouche for example. Lyndon Larouche and cryonics are essentially banned in a Josef Goebbells propaganda-like way. I even publish that here, now, at risk to myself.

The problem with all of this is that the truth ultimately is the best way to go and will ultimately surface. There's nothing wrong with the truth-- other than our capacity to handle it. The cryonics "ministry of propaganda" should realize that because they ought to have had fairly good edcuations. Unfortunatly, they think they can trick the public into acting on their emotions. like Edward Bernays tricked women into learning to smoke by making them think of the cigarette as a penis, for example. it might work for awhile, but eventually we disocver what fools we've been made of.

Similiary in cryonics, if peole are somehow tricked into thinking they're, say, buying a medicaly procedure like a heart transplant, or that they're extending their life, or that they're going into suspended animation, because the firm that handled them was called Suspended animation-- which is really a term used for a valid medical procedure these days-- I think they'll be more unhappy and upset in the end that they were duped. I think it's more honest and more fun to take the old fashioned route and appeal to people's ability to reason.

Certainly there are plenty of reaonsable arguments in favor of cryonics being made by cryonicists. So why aren't peoplel signing up? I don't know for sure, but I'd like to try a trick in cryonics myself-- if you can call it that. I recommend all the cryonics providers get together and STOP offereing any new account signups for cryonics. When you take something AWAY from people, they tend to want it more. Of course, the stopping of sign ups-- and procedures OTHER than for those already signed up or in the sign up process-- would be initiated again-- but ONLY offered to people who have taken a course-- which they MUST graduate from-- that offers the TRUTH about cryonics... in as stark a way as possible.

Tricking people into learning the truth isn't such a bad trick. I wish someone had tricked me like that years ago when I first signed up for cryonics. I remain signed up today but had to learn the truth the hard way, on my own. Cryonics today should simply make that learning curve that I went through easier. They should not turn to Edward Bernays methods.
