My question is-- The government itself is supposed to issue currency-- so why tax? Just create the money. It appears they couldn't do that even back then-- but why not? There's a mystery wrapped in a conundrum.

A previous reference point I like-- is the idea that the founding fathers of the US depended on an outside financier to get the Republic started. Why? Why not create your own currency from scratch?

Congress is, by constitutional law, supposed to be able to create money. That's where money originates-- it's not supposed to originate with the banks. Other finnancial instruments increase money supply too-- but that's a different thing-- it's not money in the primray sense... The money itself has to be registered with an international agency that logs the agreements in terms of exchange rates-- agreeements made by governements-- to keep speculators in check.

Larouche supports taxation but this is a mystery to me-- given his argument that government creates money throurhg Congress. Taxes only regulate activieis downward-- but the upward creation of activiity is by utterance of money-- from the source of money-- the Treastury which should be under the control of Congress.
