There is subversion going on in Canada. In fact, Canada has always been-- from day one-- subverted. This has been the source of the so-called "Canadian identity crisis". My background gives me unique qualifications in understanding Canadian identity problems. What it took, basically, was understand what the United States was-- and what the identity problems were there. My unique angle on THAT was to explore the identity problems associated with being a human being. And on THAT level, there are severe identity problems-- because most human beings do not really understand what the essence of the human being is. Now most Canadians I know are human beings. A few are not-- but most are. So-- the seat of human consciousness-- is built upon uniquely human identity and THEN on top of that, you have an identity associations that can most rightfully be called "national", as in "national identity". Going further, subsumed under that, you have more local identities and that is where we come to East Vancouver-- or any neighbourhood for that matter. My mini-mission here is to "help" the leaders of East Vancouver understand their identity so that they may increase the ability of their neighbourhood to exist. More later.
