DEATH and DYING PREPARATION-- Healthcare power of attourney

I'm signed up for cryonics. I've never looked into death and dying preparation other than cryonics, however. Over the next quarter I'll look at healthcare power of attourney.

I would have thought I would have read about in cryonics publications-- but haven't really been aware of it. Is it me-- or is that idea not being put in the foreground like it should be? The publications in cryonics are very poor compared to what I have in the Classical Humanist area-- publications put out by Lyndon Larouche. Larouche is a much better writer than anyone in cryonics-- so I take my que from him on writing style. I've emailed Dave Pizer who is a founder of the Venturists, a quasi-religious society dedicated to support services for cryonicists signed up with any cryonics organization. I've asked him if Venturists are able to act as power of attourney for cryonicists.

Every entity invovled in publishing ideas-- cryonics or Larouche-- ought to take a que from the periodical indexes in the stacks in libraries. Without a quarterly periodical index, we're screwed. To contact an attorney who specializes in this work in your area, telephone your state Bar Association (listed in your local white pages) and ask for a reference. Many attorneys who participate in the Bar Association referral service will provide an initial half-hour consultation free of charge or for a small fee.

After you have executed your advance directives, please make sure you send a copy to us at Alcor. This is absolutely essential, so that we know who has your power of attorney in an emergency. Also, it is a good idea to review your advance directives regularly to make sure that they still express your wishes accurately.

The best way of assuring that your wishes will be honored is to find a sympathetic doctor who has agreed to honor your wishes in advance. At the very least, make sure your doctor has copies of your advance directives, and that your hospital is given copies on admission.

MY COMMENT-- YOu don't have to pay for an "attorney"-- which is fancy lingo for "laywer"-- you can use a paralegal-- at least in Arizona. The idea of sending a copy to Alcor is something I never thought about-- and Alcor's article doesn't say WHO can act as power of Attorney-- and they certainly don't mention Venturists-- ALL of these considereations should be discussed on blogs and forums by cryonicists on a continuing basis-- with membership sharing their experiences-- and THAT's how membership can be increased becaues others will get the picture...

At this time, I'm on my own-- I've been signed up with Alcor since 1991-- but I've never been reminded by Alcor to get busy with my healthcare power of attourney-- that's 16 years-- I guess they just don't care... I would have thought they would at least cover this in alphabetical order in a quarterly publication-- on a repeating cycle... maybe we can do that in the future.
