Has the hydrolysis problem been solved?

Larouche talks about the need for nuclear power to create enough hydrogen to run vehicles. I still believe this is neccessary but in the meantime, here's something that makes it look as if the actual method of creating hydrogen for fuel has been solved. [+] For $150, you can run your car on water. The electrollysis is done by the car battery-- and the energy input still has to be gas-- but the gas powers the car to charge the battery which does the electrolsysi which drives the car. Is there an advantage? One would think not-- since you'd be burning the same amount of gas to split water as you would to drive the car in the first place. The point of nuclear power is to create ENOUGH hydrogen to run millions of cars. You can't split enough water at home to run your home and your car-- that's the esssence of the problem. Still, it's interesting that this guy CAN split water. And it's possible that a hybrid gas/water car CAN indeed unlock energy in split water so that a lot less gas is used. Maybe it's not as simple as a 1:1 power ratio. Maybe 1 unit of gas energy can unlcok 10 units of hydrogen energy. I'm not good enough at physics to figure this out-- I'd be curious to see some analyses. It's sort of like how nuclear bombs work-- they have to create a small explosion to create a big explosion-- a two step energy release process.
