CRYONICS-- Alcor-- dy-- 38-- We're not done with the history of this

[+] CPlatt has done a good job on contacting Fred and Linda to discover the origin of the self-electing board but he-- CPlatt-- THEN dismisses the historiographic research by saying "so much for the history". I don't think so. I think we're just beginning.

Here's the situation as I see it.. .

It appears Fred and Linda may indeed have initiated Alcor as a self-electing board organization due to few people. So it was formalized in the early 80's. Then at some point the term "Director Electorate" came into view-- and there was a period where THAT was occurring. THEN, Mike Darwin reversed it-- putting Alcor BACK into a self-electing board-- a re-write of the bylaws that he regrets.. that CPlatt recalls from a CryoCare meeting.

Then CPlatt recounts how at an Alcor confrerence, Merkle asked who favors a vote for board members-- and there was positive response-- yet there was apparently no referecne at that conference to the BASIC MODEL FOR DEMOCRACY at Alcor-- which EXISTED for what appears to be a period of time-- and which had to have been invented by someone NOT YET NAMED-- that got into the bylaws-- and is cited on the Alcor site itself-- which model is BETTER than "direct democracy"-- despite FD's objections... which is the ceation of a DIRECTOR ELECTORATE.

Dave Pizer's push for this-- needs to take this history into account because it represents a powerful position. It appears that the reason that the original Alcor was founded on a self-electing board was not enough willing people to do otherwise. Later, the reason that Alcor was returned to a sself-electing board was Mike's theory that it would represent the best format for long term survival-- a decision he regrets-- and is probably at THIS time-- worth pulling out on stage to comment on again.

So BOTH reasons for self-electing boards-- few people and later, long term survival-- have been overturned in some fashion. We're now at the point where the author of the original Director Electorate system should come forward-- and describe how that process was invented-- since we're NOW at the point where we're big enough to reconsider this idea. NO DISCUSSION of alcor's possible democracy can be valid unles CONTINUED reference to this history is made-- so no-- CP-- it's not "so much for history"-- this is an essential history and needs to be further explored.
