CRYONICS-- Alcor-- Tanya Jones-- 01-- cryonics as medicine vs. death treatment

Here's Tanya Jones-- philosopher and marketing expert apparently--

The first assumption is that cryonics will never be particularly popular as long as people consider it an alternative method for disposing of a deceased human body. Cryonics is about saving lives, and medical professionals should perform cryopreservations in hospitals. Social acceptance and scientific credibility are essential to accomplishing this goal. In order to realize this (admittedly long-term) dream, we need to prove that cryonics can do what we desire: preserve the biological viability of a body and brain for future revival. This demands more research.

MY COMMENT-- my bolding above-- because cryonics cannot be said to "save lives". It saves structures that produced life. We have not proven that doing that can save the human cognitive function. That's pure speculation. But to say cryonics saves lives is a phrase I categortically reject-- I don't care how that plays in terms of the marketing and publc relations (brainwashing) campaign. I'm more interested in hard cord porn-- oops-- I mean hard core truth.

MY OTHER COMMENT-- The idea that cryonics needs more research is starting to look like a fallacy to me. Cryonics companies need to do research because its a requirement to maintain their whole body donation status-- and their 501c3 status in Alcor's case-- and besides Saul Kent has 21CM which is NEVER mentioned by Alcor people even though there is a tight link between cryonics, alcor and 21CM-- so the research dept. was stripped out of Alcor by Saul and put in a separate building. Saul is member of Alcor and every issue of Alcor's Cryonics "magazine" (quarterly promotional piece which is not a journal) features a full page back cover ad for Saul's vitamin company-- which puts out a magazine which isn't even that good compared to other literature I get.

MY COMMENT ON RESEARCH-- Ralph Merkle's statement that cryonics is an experiment that requires 100 years is more true than the idea that alcor needs to do research. Alcor cannot by itself do the research required to prove that we maintain structure sufficiently to make cognitive function work again. Alcor needs to do R&D on simply emergency rescue and cooldown of, yes-- "dead" bodies-- meaning that the human being is declared DEAD by a legally sanctioned person to do that-- and then handed to the "death-busters" team to cool the "dead body" down as quickly and with as little cellular damage as possible. Then we store the cold dead body long enough to the far future... if we have a future. That's the thesis.
At least that's what I "bought" when I signed up with Alcor.

MY COMMENT ON GROWTH-- First here's tanya--

The membership growth rate is another aspect we monitor closely, and the rate is less than we would like. Our historic trend is that every two people completing the application process, one departs. Last year, our departure rate was slightly less than average, based on data collected for seven years. We recently started tracking the reasons for these departures.

MY COMMENT-- we RECENTLY started tracking reasons for departures? Ha ha. Wow-- THERE's incompetence for you. Every time a customer has ever left me, I've always asked them for a reason. Anytime I've returned item to a store, I'm always asked why. And alcor just STARTED doing that? Anyway, people who leave are wusses in my view. The hard-core pornography loving cryonicist like me doesn't "leave" based on silly reasons. We hard core cryos understand the mission and the depth of the situation. My own sign up process was rocky however and maybe I'll describe that in this blog soon-- because I'm going through another phase of "signing up" for a will-- and I'm thinking about leaving my estate to the Venturists.
